He overcame the fact that nobody recruited him to play in college and that Alex Smith was selected well before him in the NFL draft. He patiently came into the NFL and bided his time as a backup. All the time he was patiently learning and not complaining. When he finally got the chance to start, he was amazing and has continued to be. Plus, between his photobombs and touchdown celebration, we know he has a sense of humor.

I can now admit, “Yes, I really enjoy watching Aaron Rodgers play.” With all that being said, I will root for the Steelers today.

-Upon his deathbed our 13th president, Millard Fillmore, uttered his last words after being fed his last meal:

I can only hope mine are as epic. You can now find him interred at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo, NY.

-During his presidency, Millard Fillmore and his wife, Abigail, founded the first White House library. Appropriately, you can now read a book about the whole process, The First White House Library: A History and Annotated Catalogue.

-Fillmore’s post-presidency brainchild was the Buffalo Historical Society–of which he was the first president. It’s now known as the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society. Currently, they are running an exhibit called Fact, Fiction & Spectacle: The Trial of Red Jacket

OK, so I saw a Sam Adams commercial the other day, and all I could think about was how much B.S. they were spewing. The commercial talks about why they use brown bottles in making their beer. They say on their website:

“Beer really does taste better out of a dark bottle. Light can cause beer to become light struck, or skunky. The brown glass helps protect the beer and allows less light to penetrate than clear or green bottles.”

You can also watch the commercial on their website to get a better feel for the argument (note: you must be 21 to view).

Now, I have no problem with the idea that their bottles let in less light, and this is an advantage over Corona and other chromatically challenged beers. The problem that I have is what percentage of the time do we leave beer in direct light? If you add up this amount of time and factor the real rate that beer turns skunky due to light (I have a strong feeling it’s pretty low), I have a strong feeling that the difference between green and clear bottles is negligible at best.

I would be willing to bet that the real reason that they go for brown glass bottles is because they are cheaper to manufacture–as are the non-twistoff tops referenced in the commercial. Thanks Sam Adams for caring about the customers so much.

I think that Jeff Bridges was really playing Waylon Jennings, and not Bad Blake in Crazy Heart. Originally, I thought that Bridges’ performance was amazing, but the more I learned about Jennings the less impressed I was with Bridges. So, for those who have seen it: Is Jeff Bridges’ playing Waylon Jennings or not? If so, is he any good at it?
